Overview

Wyoming attorneys must complete 15 CLE credit hours each year, including 2 hours in legal ethics or professional responsibility. The compliance year runs from January 1 through December 31, and attorneys must report compliance by January 15 of the following year using the Wyoming State Bar online CLE portal.

Exemptions and Special Rules

  • Newly admitted attorneys are exempt from CLE requirements for the remainder of the calendar year in which they are admitted
  • Inactive, retired, and judicial members are exempt while in those statuses
  • Attorneys reinstating to active status must complete any missed CLE from prior years
  • Waivers or extensions may be granted by the CLE Committee for hardship, illness, or military service

Approved Providers, Accreditation & Alternative Credit Methods

  • CLE programs must be accredited by the Wyoming State Bar CLE Committee
  • Out-of-state CLE programs accredited by another MCLE jurisdiction may qualify upon submission for approval
  • Attorneys may also earn CLE credit for:
    • Teaching accredited CLE or law school courses
    • Writing or publishing legal materials
    • Participating in bar or professional education activities
  • Providers must retain attendance records for 3 years

Non-Compliance Penalties

  • Attorneys who fail to complete or report CLE receive a Notice of Noncompliance
  • Late reporting or completion results in a $100 penalty
  • Continued noncompliance may lead to administrative suspension by the Wyoming Supreme Court
  • Reinstatement requires proof of CLE completion, payment of fees, and certification of compliance
